PNEUMONIA EDUCATION
A web page designed by nurses for nurses to obtain information on pneumonia vaccines to provide for patients.
There are approximately 500,000 cases of pneumonia each year, resulting in up to 12,000 deaths. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended the pneumococcal vaccine for all persons 65 years and older. The Healthy People 2010 goal is to achieve at least 90% vaccine coverage for this population. This site provides links to information and videos for your patients to emphasize the importance of the pneumonia vaccine.

Nurses play a key role in educating older adults ages 65 and over about the importance of receiving the pneumonia vaccine.
This educational website provides nurses with an educational overview of the disease, treatments, and prevention and vaccine administration.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), estimates that the number of deaths associated with pneumococcal pneumonia could be reduced by approximately 50% with appropriate pneumococcal vaccinations.
